WHITE PLAINS, NY July, 2003 โ€" In joint statements released today from the Latin Recording Academyยฎ and the Celia Cruz Foundation, it was announced that Heineken USA's Green Ribbon initiative will be a top priority among the charitable efforts for this year's 4th Annual Latin GRAMMYยฎ Awards. Heineken Green Ribbons is a national initiative designed to raise awareness and funds for music education programs in communities across the country.
As part of a collective effort with the Latin GRAMMYs and The Celia Cruz Foundation to raise awareness of this critical issue in the Hispanic community, Heineken USA will make a donation to the Celia Cruz Foundation. The 4th Annual Latin GRAMMYยฎ Awards will be held at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami on September 3 and will be broadcast domestically by the CBS Television Network from 9โ€"11 p.m. (ET/PT).
The Heineken Green Ribbons program was created by Heineken USA in the spring of 2003 and raised $10,000 for the Celia Cruz Foundation. The program hopes to more than double this contribution number at the Latin GRAMMYs.
As part of this initiative, Heineken will design a special green ribbon to symbolize its commitment to music education. Members of the media, celebrities and others are encouraged to wear a special green ribbon at this year's Latin GRAMMYs to highlight the need to support music education in our communities.

Glastonbury, CT May 17, 2004 -- On Saturday, May 22nd at 10AM, 20,000 kids and adults across the United States and the United Kingdom will become โ€œSteal-Proof Masters.โ€ Adventures in Safety, LLC and United Professionals, along with martial artists and safety officials across the country, will screen the โ€œJourney of the Steal-Proof Masterโ€ (SPM) video and provide free trainings in hundreds of communities in an all-out effort to teach children and adults about abduction prevention.
The โ€œJourney of the Steal-Proof Masterโ€ is a fantasy-based adventure created by Adventures in Safety, LLC, based in Glastonbury, CT. Creator Richard Kohler has used the SPM video to teach thousands of area children about abduction prevention while training children to trust their intuitions and to become aware of the lures that adults may use to kidnap and assault them. Kohler is a fourth degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and the owner of Martial Arts Unlimited, a personal development and self-defense training facility.
During the Steal-Proof Master National Challenge, children will be introduced to ten โ€œevil warriors,โ€ characters who represent the most common behaviors and lures used to abduct and assault children. Licensed trainers will teach children to tell their parents or guardians when anything that another adult does or says makes them feel uncomfortable. The children will participate in role-playing and discussions, leading them to understand and anticipate the potential dangers of interactions with strangers as well as friends and family members who might mean them harm.
The joint venture between Kohler and United Professionals' president Greg Silva is a natural partnership; Silva's organization represents nearly 700 martial arts schools around the country and his personal network reaches several thousand martial artists, all of who are dedicated to teaching personal safety to children and adults.
โ€œOur vision for this event is that children and adults who participate will become catalysts in their communities, bringing the messages in this video and training program into their schools and community groups,โ€ says Kohler. โ€œKids love this video and respond to its fantasy-based approach. It holds their attention and the critical information gets transferred in a way that they can relate to it.โ€

There are many learning objectives needed in order to establish a solid Music Education program so when looking for one, make sure it consists of the following basic objectives. A viable program trains its students to read and write music notation and its values in both, the treble and bass clef. When these skills are learned, playing in both clefs, on the piano, can be accomplished effectively.
A strong program develops vocal skills, not just for vocal students but for its instrumental students, as well. Teaching instrumentalists the essence of singing music notation in both, the treble and bass clef using different note values and time signatures is significant because it promotes good ear training, sight singing and rhythm. Also, it prepares the student for other skills such as directing or accompanying choirs should he/she decide to enter that profession.
Learning Music Theory is important because it is the key to analyzing compositions and good musicians should have this ability. Understanding the structure of a song is laying the foundation of new songs to be created.
Lastly, learning world Music History allows students to appreciate different genres. This is really important for composition students. Coupled with their understanding of theory, they can draw from various styles of music to create their own original styles.
When looking for a strong Music Education program, make sure all of the above objectives are in place. They are necessary because a quality program that contains these objectives, builds strong cognitive skills, logical thought patterns, discipline, solid creative skills and music appreciation... the elements needed in developing a well-rounded musician.

Being a nurse has long been considered to be the noblest of professions. In fact, even to this day, people from certain ethnic groups or communities look at nursing as the only viable career option. Apart form the tremendous satisfaction it brings from the sheer act of caring for and nursing people to good health, nursing is slowly but surely becoming a lucrative profession. Most nurses today in American hospital and private nursing homes earn reasonably good salaries. And hospitals continue to recruit scores of nurses from all over the world to cater to the demand for qualified nurses.
But becoming a nurse is not really inexpensive. Apart from the fact that the course itself is expensive, most nurses have to appear for certifying exams in order to get the necessary licenses or registrations that enable them to become full-fledged nurses. Which is why, a vast majority of nurses complete their basic nursing qualification (usually a diploma) before they enter the workforce.
Once inside, they realize that for nurses with better qualifications, there are tremendous growth opportunities. This usually puts them in a dilemma. If they quit their jobs to take up further courses of study, they not only stand to lose valuable income, but also run the risk of further students loans to pay for costly education. If on the other hand, they stay back in their jobs, they may never see a promotion or an opportunity for growth for a long time to come. The answer to such a dilemma is nursing continuing education.
Simply put, nursing continuing education is an "earn while you learn" scheme. When working nurses sign-up for nursing continuing education programs, they can continue to work at their regular hospitals while they improve their qualifications on the side. Most Diploma in Nursing holders can thus sign-up for a Degree program and work for their degree part-time while working as a regular nurse. Of course, such a course might be longer than a conventional full-time course, but the working nurse need not give up her job to pursue her education.
Most hospitals in the United States have a tie-up or affiliation with a college or university that provides nursing continuing education. Since the hospital itself administers the program, the nurses stand to benefit as they can schedule their rounds conveniently in order to accommodate the demands of the course. They also prefer hospitals which provide the option of nursing continuing education because this is a guarantee that they will have chances to grow in their chosen profession and consequently, earn more. And for the hospitals, it makes commercial sense because they have a steady pool of nurses guaranteed to undertake the course. Further, hospitals favor the nursing continuing education programs because it helps them retain staff in an industry that is always short of qualified nurses. It makes for better business sense to retain and train their existing nurses than to find new nurses.
Most American Nursing Associations like the American Nursing Association (ANA), American Nephrology Nursing Association (ANNA) and others are strong proponents of nursing continuing education. After all, it is a win-win situation for all concerned. And who would say not to happy, qualified nurses working in stress-free hospitals!
